This subject is primarily intended to provide an understanding livestock breeding and selection through the principles of genetic and reproductive principles, technologies, and breeding objectives and selection methodologies used in livestock breeding, and genetic diseases and disorders . The subject will cover the modern biology of domestic livestock animal genetics, principles underlying livestock breeding and selection and the genetic foundation underlying the use of estimated breeding values to make predications of an animals potential breeding value. The subject provides a more in depth study of the principles behind common sire selection programs. Reproductive and genetic technologies used in meeting production and management goals are also discussed.
