This subject is a yearlong subject within the broad area of biological dental science. The subject introduces craniofacial anatomy, the human dentitions and teeth in the contexts of form and function in relation to society, non-primate comparative anatomy and hominid-primate craniofacial characteristics. The detailed anatomical morphology of teeth, microscopic structure of the dental tissues, their supporting tissues, tooth calcification, emergence-eruption, dental embryology and the structure and function of the oral mucosa, the salivary glands and the temporomandibular joint are dealt with in detail.
