EEL521 Scholarly Teaching and Learning (8)

This subject provides students with the opportunity to explore a number of aspects of higher education teaching practice. Through a series of self-chosen modules, students will have the opportunity to focus on designing inclusive learning environments that meet the needs of the diverse CSU student profile, and exploring a range of disciplinary, online and practice based pedagogies. Students will be assisted to develop their ability to evaluate the quality of their teaching practice as well as their capacity for reflective practice.

Assumed Knowledge

Students will have completed EEL516.  This subject  builds on knowledge introduced in EEL516.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to design learning environments that are inclusive of the diverse CSU student profile, for example by promoting academic success and social justice for Indigenous Australian students;
  • be able to provide students with flexibility and choice in learning and teaching where appropriate;
  • be able to apply disciplinary, practice-based, WPL and/or online pedagogies, where appropriate, incorporating educational research, scholarship and evaluation to enhance the quality of their learning design and teaching practices;
  • be able to demonstrate professionalism, initiative and judgement in decision making, actions and reflective teaching practice; and
  • be able to use contemporary learning theories and scholarship to critique a course or subject and make logical suggestions to enhance the quality of teaching and student learning.

  • Develop effective learning environments
  • Advanced workplace learning
  • Incorporation of Indigenous Cultural Competence in your course/subject
  • Pedagogy and learning design
  • Self chosen modules from a range of sources including CSU DSL professional learning, and OER resources
