This subject investigates the nature of English as a global language. It explores the history of the rise of English to become a global language, and the variety of Englishes used around the world. A range of beliefs and theories about English as a global language is considered to enable participants to engage with the benefits and issues of the spread of English globally. Participants will be encouraged to use and share their own experiences of learning English as an additional language to understand the place and role of English in a range of international contexts.
