HIP112 Communication for Health Practice (8)

This subject develops the oral and written professional communication skills of students. Students will also enhance their personal communication skills, including self reflection and personal exploration. Students develop foundation skills in therapeutic listening, counselling, negotiation, and collaboration. Communication tasks and skills that are specific for therapists are addressed, including writing treatment plans and reports. Whilst this subject has an emphasis on the language and conventions used in health practice it also helps students develop academic writing skills. In addition, students will develop skills in communicating with people who have communication difficulties or use assisted communication. Students will learn skills in taking a basic medical history and obtaining a history of the presenting problem.
