This subject introduces students to the United Nations and domestic systems of human rights and critically examines Australia's history of upholding the rights of Indigenous Australians. It investigates the role of various UN treaties, conventions and committees, including the International Committee for the Elimination of all Forms of Racial Discrimination, and domestic bodies such as the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission and domestic legislations such as the Racial Discrimination Act and Racial Vilification laws. It also examines the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and how this applies to Indigenous peoples of Australia.
