This subject introduces research techniques used by journalists in acquiring information. It examines data journalism as a contemporary research tool and the use of data visualisation in reporting. Information and data are critically assessed and interpreted for inclusion in cross-platform journalism in an authentic newsroom environment.

  • The relationship between research, investigation and data in journalism
  • Sourcing and interpreting public records and financial information
  • Accessing and interpreting data using spreadsheet software
  • Using data visualisation tools
  • Integrating research and data findings into contemporary journalism
  • Team work strategies
