The ability to create human centred interaction across a range of media platforms is essential for students entering careers in the fields of communication, art, design, media production, animation, games and interactivity. This subject provides an introduction to interaction design and the technology and production necessary to create engaging content across various interactive platforms. Students explore interaction design, technology and production through a lens of social entrepreneurship.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to understand the fundamental concepts of interaction design and human user experience as they apply to interactive media;
  • be able to describe and apply principles of social entrepreneurship in design contexts;
  • be able to apply a range of design, technology and production processes towards independent content creation;
  • be able to apply principles of user testing, systems thinking and human centered design for software and hardware based interactivity; and
  • be able to demonstrate techniques to create, edit and publish to interactive platforms responding to a range of conceptual briefs.

  • Using Mock-up software platforms
  • Understanding workflows for interactive technologies

Special Resources

It is expected that students have access to the following:

  • Adobe Creative Cloud suite of software;
  • Software that allows the mock-up of interactive design;
  • Headphones;
  • A handheld device (phone, tablet etc);
  • 360 degree camera; and
  • Device capable of playing 360 video with head tracking.
