PSY560 Masters Dissertation 1 (8)

This subject is the first of four 8 credit point subjects across which students will plan, execute, and write-up a professionally relevant research project. Successful completion of this subject will require students to deliver an oral research proposal, followed by a written project proposal and and attain approval for their project from their research supervisor.

Enrolment Restrictions

Only students enrolled in the Master of Clinical Psychology may enrol in this subject.

Students undertaking part-time progression will enrol in this subject during Session 1 of their third year.  Students undertaking full-time progression will enrol in this subject during Session 1 of their second year.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to utilize library and information technology appropriately to locate scholarly literature relevant to a phenomenon or problem of interest;
  • be able to understand and critically analyse the scholarly literature in order to inform the development of an appropriate research question or questions, and
  • be able to design research methodology appropriate to the research question or questions.

Syllabus

This subject will cover the following topics:
  • planning, and formally proposing, a research project

Residential School

This subject contains a 3 day Compulsory Residential School.

At this residential school students will present an oral proposal of their intended research project and receive feedback on this proposal from their peers, the Subject Coordinator and other relevant staff members.  Students will also attend sessions regarding ethical approval for research, data management and data analysis.
