This subject explores the different ways in which our everyday lives are connected increasingly to global events and processes. Through the study of topics such as consumption, work, crime and terrorism, migration, and environmental degradation, students are introduced to different sociological perspectives that assist in making sense of why global transformations are occurring, and the consequences for how we understand and experience the world. The subject engages with important questions such as: In what ways are global changes transforming how we think about and experience the world? How does increasing global mobility and inter-connectedness contribute to new forms of solidarity and belonging as well as social inequality? What are the challenges and prospects in creating a more socially just and environmentally sustainable world?
