THM108 Principles of Theatre/Media (16)

This subject engages students in the practical and theoretical aspects of staging live and mediated and performances. Skills in collaboration and communication are developed and applied to the creation and production of performances using storytelling, rehearsal and ensemble training techniques. Students develop an understanding of technical production roles, production planning and delivery and apply their knowledge in real and simulated environments. Writing is used as a tool for students to develop skills in reflection.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to identify the principles of theatre-making and mediated performance;
  • be able to apply knowledge of performance processes to the creative of live and mediated events;
  • be able to demonstrate an understanding of production roles;
  • be able to evaluate and analyse performance processes and theory; and
  • be able to develop strategies for collaboration and problem-solving in a creative context.

Syllabus

This subject will cover the following topics:
  • An examination of a variety of theatre-making practices
  • Story structure
  • Introduction to performance processes including ensemble training, rehearsal, production skills and planning
  • Development of individual and group awareness in collaborative processes
  • Group communication and reflection
