WEL428 Holistic Eco-Social Approaches to Global Governance and Policy (8)

This subject explores the role of human services in relation to governance and policy for a more sustainable world. Using a global citizenship framework, local and global policy contexts will be appraised with reference to the multidimensional impacts of environmental issues on wellbeing. A critique will be undertaken of all systems of governance including nation states, global entities, markets and institutions. This subject provides an opportunity for students to discover how professional practice can actively contribute to sustainable planning and policy development in communities.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to describe global citizenship and ecological justice in the international context;
  • be able to critically evaluate systems of governance in relation to social and environmental policy at local and global levels;
  • be able to describe roles for human services professionals in relation to ecological and social justice; and
  • be able to apply principles of holistic human services practice to address governance and policy issues.
