The subject initially introduces students to a range of applied business research methodologies. The subject then focuses on two major approaches, qualitative and quantitative research methods. The description of methods focuses upon data collection, analysis, interpretation and evaluation issues.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to systematically investigate and critically evaluate a range of applied business research methodologies and approaches including: case study; action research; observational research; experimentation; qualitative and quantitative approaches;
  • be able to analyse and evaluate qualitative research data collection, analysis, interpretation and evaluation methods and techniques; and
  • be able to analyse and evaluate quantitative research data collection, analysis, interpretation and evaluation methods and techniques.

This subject will cover the following topics:
  • Research methods and approaches including: case study; action research; observational research; and experimentation
  • Qualitative research methods: data collection, analysis, interpretation and evaluation
  • Quantitative research methods: data collection, analysis, interpretation and evaluation
