The aim of this subject is to provide an introduction to selected concepts and theories from biology, sociology and psychology which have been applied to the study of ageing. The relevance to practice of a sound grounding in theoretical knowledge in gerontology and the multi-disciplinary nature of that knowledge are discussed. The subject provides an overview of research in gerontology and provides experiential learning in formulating a research proposal.
