MGI514 Project Management Leadership (8)

This subject focuses on the leadership skills, knowledge and understanding required to deliver successful projects as the head of the project team. Students will learn the executive aspects of project management which sit above the project methodology layer, as well as exploring modern developments in project management. Team leadership and management techniques are compared and analysed as well as techniques to handle common project challenges. The core project constraints are explored in the overview. Students will learn how to effectively engage stakeholders and maintain positive outcomes for their project whilst avoiding or overcoming typical obstacles to success.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to differentiate between leadership and management and reflect on their effects on a project team's success;
  • be able to predict and analyse interpersonal challenges and apply appropriate resolution techniques;
  • be able to investigate the business justification of a project and manage benefits realisation;
  • be able to predict and analyse typical and likely challenges of the core project constraints, and to devise and apply preventative and corrective techniques;
  • be able to identify and predict likely sources of project risk and to devise mitigation and avoidance strategies for them; and
  • be able to analyse and integrate information from the appropriate literature on emerging trends in project management leadership.
