This subject provides students an introduction to the Doctoral research process and the administrative supports that they will be expected to engage with. Attention is given to the nature of the research process, including the steps to be followed in planning and designing a research project. An outline of the philosophy of research and the means by which researchers identify issues and acquire knowledge is also provided. At completion students will be able to clearly articulate the purpose of their research, have a working knowledge of the major chapter-forming components of a dissertation and be cognisant of the ethical issues they will need to address.
