The subject also includes an exploration and critical analysis of scientific literature that governs clinical practice in this field. Assessment includes critical evaluation of research, reflection and a literature review, focusing on an area of interest for the student.

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to discuss the epidemiology of COPD within the historical and world wide context;
  • be able to critique the current Australian recommendations for diagnosis and management of COPD;
  • be able to describe the respiratory pathology underlying COPD, according to both 'type' and severity of COPD;
  • be able to critically evaluate the management strategies used in the care of people with COPD;
  • Be able to define and relate the concepts of evidence-based practice and reflective practice to the role of the COPD-X Guidelines in service provision and the care of people with COPD.
