Normal Course Duration

Minimum Period of Candidature

A candidate for a Doctor of Philosophy or Research Professional Doctorate shall not be permitted to submit a thesis for examination within three years (full-time equivalent) of the date of commencement of candidature.

A candidate for a Doctor of Philosophy or Research Professional Doctorate who has commenced their candidature at another University shall not be permitted to submit their thesis for examination within the first twelve months (full-time equivalent) of candidature at Charles Sturt University or prior to completion of a total of three years candidature across both institutions (full-time equivalent).

A candidate for the Doctor of Philosophy by Prior Publication shall not be permitted to submit a thesis for examination within six months (full-time equivalent) of the date of commencement of candidature.

A candidate for a Master by Research degree shall not be permitted to submit a thesis for examination within one year (full-time equivalent) of the date of commencement of candidature.

Maximum Period of Candidature

A candidate for a Doctor of Philosophy or Research Professional Doctorate will be required to submit a thesis for examination within four years (full-time equivalent) of the date of commencement of candidature.

A candidate for the Doctor of Philosophy by Prior Publication will be required to submit a thesis for examination within one year (full-time equivalent) of the date of commencement of candidature.

A candidate for a Masters of Research will be required to submit a thesis for examination within two years (full-time equivalent) of the date of commencement of candidature.

In exceptional circumstances, variations to minimum and maximum periods of candidature requirements may be approved by the Director, Research.

Higher Degree by Research Policy: Enrolment and Progress

Minimum/Maximum Period of Candidature is the effective period of time taken to complete a course when studied Full-time (Full-time Equivalent Duration).

Admission Criteria

CSU Admission Policy

Students must have completed a MBA degree or Masters Degree in Business, or hold an equivalent qualification from a recognised Australian tertiary institution, or hold an international qualification deemed to be equivalent (as determined by NOOSR).

To gain entry to the program students will normally have achieved a credit average (or equivalent) in their MBA (or equivalent) studies as a demonstration of their capacity to undertake postgraduate work at an advanced level.

In addition to acceptable academic qualifications, an applicant for admission shall:

To graduate students must satisfactorily complete 192 points.

Course Structure

The course consists of the following programs:

1) DBA coursework:

Each student must successfully complete four doctoral level subjects (for a total of 64 points):

DBA712 Research Methodology for Business
DBA713 Developing a Literature Review
DBA714 Business Specialisation Research

and;

2) DBA Thesis

The student, under the direction of the appointed supervisors, will identify, analyse and propose solutions to current problems confronting professional practice in business through the application of knowledge, thereby improving professional practice or understanding.

The original contribution to knowledge in a DBA thesis must encompass at least one of the following:
