Breaking Barriers, Building Futures: Women in the Cambodian Academy – A panel discussion

We are pleased to invite you to an international seminar panel presentation: Breaking Barriers, Building Futures: Women in the Cambodian Academy – A panel discussion

Thursday, 29 May 2025
12:00–2:00 PM Cambodian time | 4:00–6:00 PM NSW time

This panel will explore the gendered experiences of women working in academia in Cambodia. Despite steady increases in participation since the 1990s, Cambodian women continue to face significant barriers to advancement in higher education, particularly in leadership roles. Panel members will discuss persistent challenges shaped by traditional norms and institutional constraints as well as enabling factors such as peer networks, supportive policies, and cultural change.

Join the SheThinks Network to hear from women academics working in Cambodian universities. The session will be structured as a facilitated discussion that centres Cambodian women’s voices and highlights strategies for advancing gender equality in the academy.

Discussion questions include:

  • What is the history of women in the Cambodian academy?
  • How do cultural and social norms influence academic pathways for women?
  • What are the barriers to gender equity in higher education in Cambodia?
  • What supports and strategies have helped women succeed?
