Issues and crisis management are core communication disciplines.  Together they provide the framework for building, maintaining and protecting organisational reputation on and offline.  This subject critically explores organisational reputation with a focus on issues and crisis.  It explores principles, theory and case studies of contemporary practice.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge in the fields of issues, risk, crisis and organisational reputation.
  • Demonstrate cognitive skills to critically evaluate issues, crises and reputation theory and practice
  • Demonstrate specialised skills in developing communication strategies to manage issues, respond to crises as well as building, maintaining and evaluating organisational reputation.

  • The nature of issues, crises and reputation.
  • Contemporary issues, crises and reputational theory.
  • Approaches, frameworks and principles for issues and crisis management, including legaal and ethical considerations
  • Approaches to managing organisational reputation: Offline and Online
  • Concepts and protocols for responding to issues, crises and reputational threats.
