REC111 Outdoor Recreation Field Skills 2 (8)


REC111 is a subject that builds on the skills and knowledge obtained in REC110. Students further develop outdoor leadership competence and gain experience in small group leadership in outdoor recreation. Knowledge of safety/risk management, trip planning and remote area first aid are developed. Specialised training in various outdoor recreation activities will be an intrinsic part of the subject.

This subject is available only to students enrolled in the course Bachelor of Applied Science (Outdoor Recreation and Ecotourism) at the Port Macquarie campus

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to systematically plan a range of outdoor recreation activities
  • be able to facilitate group dynamics, and to promote motivational behaviour and teamwork amongst activity participants
  • be able to utilise safety and risk management for careful planning of outdoor recreation activities
  • be able to provide advanced first aid and emergency care response

  • Outdoor leadership competence and small group leadership
  • Safety/risk management
  • Environmental impacts of outdoor recreation
  • First aid and emergency response
  • Disability issues, legal liability, certification and professional ethics is developed
