Relocating to Australia

Visas

To enter, live and work in Australia, you and any dependants will need an Australian Government visa. Visa information is provided in employment offers and depends on:

  • The nature of your work with us
  • The length of your stay
  • Your commencement date

Our visa specialists will contact you about your visa application. It is important you know the entitlements and limitations of the nominated visa classification, particularly in relation to health care and education.

The processing and approval of visas is managed through Australia's Department of Immigration and Border Protection and is therefore outside our control.

Some costs associated with entry of you and any dependents into Australia are your responsibility.

Relocation assistance

Possessions and pets

Where we have agreed to provide financial assistance for the relocation of your household effects, we will provide you with the name and contact details of our international relocation service provider so you can arrange a quotation. We can also consider quotations from other removalists upon request. Please note that we require confirmation of your visa approval(s) before we can arrange and pay for a removalist.

Please be aware that delays may occur with the delivery of your possessions, including:

  • Poor weather
  • Port loading/unloading
  • Quarantine inspection and withholding requirements.

Pets being relocated to Australia may be subject to several weeks' quarantine.

Travel

Where we have agreed to cover airfares, flights will be booked once we have received notification of the receipt of relevant visa approval(s).

We will manage the travel to your regional destination as part of your travel booking. In general, you will need to fly to the international airport at either Sydney or Melbourne and then either board a domestic flight, or travel the rest of the journey by train or car.

Temporary accommodation

CSU has a range of accommodation which can be rented for short term stays. Availability of accommodation is subject to demand. Enquiries about the availability of overnight/short term on-campus accommodation should be emailed to dpc@csu.edu.au. A staff member will contact you to discuss any specific requirements and availability on the dates requested.

The locales surrounding CSU campuses offer a variety of accommodation options for singles, couples and families, ranging from hotels and bed and breakfasts to serviced apartments. For specific information regarding availability refer to a reputable online accommodation booking site.

Transport

While bus services are available in most regional centres, services can be limited. You may find it necessary to hire a vehicle for private use when you first arrive. There are a number of car rental options available to you.  Both Hertz and Avis rental companies provide corporate discounts to CSU staff upon quoting the Corporate Discount Number.
