Commonwealth Prac Payments

If you're studying teaching, nursing or social work at Charles Sturt University and have a mandatory placement coming up, you could get financial support through the new Commonwealth Practicum Payment (CPP).

The CPP is a payment from the Australian Government to support eligible students completing unpaid placements.

This government payment helps cover some of your living costs while you're on placement.

This support applies to placements that start on or after 1 July 2025.

Who can apply?

You may be eligible if you:

  • are enrolled in a Commonwealth Supported Place in a teaching, nursing, or social work Bachelor or Master degree at Charles Sturt.
  • are completing a mandatory placement that averages 30+ hours per week
  • receive a government income support payment (like Youth Allowance, Austudy, or ABSTUDY)
    or
  • don’t receive income support but usually work 15+ hours a week and earn less than $1,500 per week before tax.

Midwifery degrees are not part of the CPP initiative at Charles Sturt University.
