Early Interventions

The Early Interventions are institution‑wide proactive outreach activities designed to support students who have failed a subject in their first 12 months of study, or who are not engaging with their subject sites as would be expected early in session.

The Early Interventions:

What staff need to know (by role)

  • Students in your subjects may receive Early Interventions communications alongside subject-level support
  • Please align subject communications and support with the intervention timing where possible
  • Some subjects are excluded from Early Interventions selection logic; these are listed in the exclusions register: CDAP excluded subjects from early interventions.xlsx
  • Ensure appropriate subjects are excluded from Early Interventions selection logic; these are listed here: CDAP excluded subjects from early interventions.xlsx
  • Awareness of the Early Interventions approach and timing
  • Share high-level information with teaching staff
  • Provide feedback to Student Skills where issues or subject-specific considerations arise
  • Awareness of Early Interventions activity to support consistent messaging to students
  • Refer queries to Student Skills or SX Support Centre as appropriate

At a glance

Updated each session.

Changes from previous session

Changes have been made to the Early Interventions procedure that explicitly links the Low Engagement campaign with the genuine student eligibility assessment found in the Enrolments and Fees procedure. The student communications will be updated to reflect these changes.

Key assurance

Where enrolment changes result from the Low Engagement campaign, these are made without academic or financial penalty, i.e. enrolment changes will be as if students made these changes prior to census.
