Dr Hooper has worked in engine research and development for his entire career, mainly focussing on advanced low emission two-stroke and four-stroke cycle engines. A particular focus of this research has centred on the high durability low emission stepped piston engine. He has been active in research for automotive, defence, marine and industrial applications both in industry and academia. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (UK).
