Dr Gary Saliba is director of Strategic Journeys, a company which specialises in strategic thinking and planning, cultural change, foresight work using scenario planning, organisational design work, systemic change and leadership development to assist people to understand and respond to complexity and uncertainty. Gary is passionate about his work that is grounded in the principles of systems thinking and complex adaptive systems. Gary initially trained in applied mathematics with a doctoral thesis in astrophysics. He moved from science to administration and began to work in the areas of systems thinking, organisational change and strategic planning in the Federal Government public sector. This work culminated in Gary publishing a book on outcomes focused strategic planning. He and his team were awarded a Federal Government innovation award for developing visual, computer simulation models for Human Resource Planning. His work has also been recognised by being featured as part of the ABC television Open Learning program. For the past 30 years Gary has worked with decision-makers in public and private sector organisations across Australia and South East Asia them to develop new ways of thinking and working to enhance their adaptive capacity in a dynamically changing world. Gary has been presenting courses on strategic thinking, foresight work and complex adaptive systems through the Australian National University Crawford School of Public Policy. As part of his commitment to rural/regional Australia, Gary graduated from the Australian Rural Leadership Foundation leadership course. He spent 3 years as CEO of Regional Development Australia- Murray region NSW, to assist government and business to enhance the social and economic development of the region. Gary is a Fellow of the Australian Rural Leadership Foundation, a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and is a certified Neuro Behavioural Modeller.
