Nepal Adult and Vocational Education Professional Experience Placement

The program in Nepal will involve students spending approximately two weeks living and working in Nepal and participating in education initiatives in partnership with Kathmandu University.

Your program will commence in Kathmandu with a cultural orientation. You'll then meet with colleagues from Kathmandu University's Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TCET) program and travel with them to Pokhara. In Pokhara, you'll visit a range of vocational training institutions. The focus of the program is on sharing approaches to teaching and learning from each other.

You will also have the opportunity for social and cultural activities. You'll spend a weekend at Chitwan National Park and visit sites of cultural and historic significance.

Charles Sturt lecturer, Dr Wendy De Luca and Kathmandu University staff will accompany you on the program to support you and provide academic supervision.

The specific dates of this program are yet to be confirmed by Kathmandu University.  The potential periods  are:

  • Option 1 -  14 Days during Session 2 2025 mid session break (25 Aug - 5 Sep 2025)

or

  • Option 2 - 14 days during Session 3 2025  (Oct-November)

Eligibility

This program is offered by the Faculty of Arts and Education and the School of Education.

Relating to course:

All applicants must hold a valid passport* at the time of applying.

*Your passport must have at least 6th month validity remaining from the program conclusion date.

Academic Recognition

  • Adult and Vocational Education students enrolled in EEB442 will undertake this placement as a requirement of the subject..
  • Other students who join the program are required to enrol in EEB310: International Cultural & Education Program. This is an online module that consists of a series of readings designed to assist students to prepare for the intercultural program. This is a zero credit point subject and it does not attract a fee, but will be recorded on the student's transcript (credit for completion of this module cannot be used to meet OS-HELP funding eligibility).

Academic recognition willl require enrolment in, payment of and successful completion of relevant subject.

Pre-departure

All participants will be required to complete mandatory pre-departure requirements. This includes the provision and completion of the following

  • Flight Itinerary*:  You must submit a copy of your E-ticket that clearly lists your dates, flight number/ times from the day you leave Australia until the day you return and confirmation these flights have been paid for.
  • Travel Insurance*:  You will need to ensure you have the appropriate medical and travel insurance from the day you leave Australia until the day you return.  You must submit a copy of your certificate of insurance and your Product Disclosure Statement (PDS). At a minimum your insurance must include:
    • Medical Expenses $500,000
    • Repatriation Expenses - to cover repatriation from Kiribati to country of residence
    • Personal Liability $1,000,000
    • 24hr Emergency Assistance Included
    • COVID 19 cover
  • Passport: You must submit a copy of your passport (the page where your photo is).
  • Pre-departure modules: You will be registered for online pre-departure training and will receive an invitation to complete this shortly (please check your spam/junk email folders for this invitation).
  • Registration with World Travel Protection (WTP): You will need to download the Travel Assist V2 by WTP app from Apple App store or Android App. The app provides immediate access to 24-hour emergency medical assistance (in the event that your own insurer is unavailable), security alerts and detailed country reports. You will need to enable World Travel Protection to access your location so you can receive real-time travel and security support if an incident occurs.
  • Student Declaration form: complete and return this to Charles Sturt Global. This will be provided with your acceptance email.
  • Emergency contact form: complete and return this to Charles Sturt Global. This will be provided with your acceptance email

In addition to the above requirements your program leader will host a number of online predeparture meetings that you will be expected to attend.
