Singapore University of Social Sciences - Comparative Policing Study Tour

Hosted by the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS), this program is designed for postgraduate students from policing, security, border force and the wider investigation disciplines wishing to immerse themselves in understanding the context, security and investigative structures of South East Asia region, Singapore

Embrace the Singaporean culture whilst learning and sharing ideas about current issues and challenges in public safety and security, sharing ideas on relational mindset in leadership and crisis leadership and transnational crime.  Students will also have an opportunity to visit the  Singapore Discovery Centre, the Home Team Academy, Maritime Port of Authority and  Interpol.

There will be no accompanying academic from Charles Sturt.  Students will be under the guidance of Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS).

Eligibility

This program is offered by the Faculty of Business, Justice and Behavioural Sciences and the Australian Graduate School of Policing and Security.

  • Master of Leadership and Management in Policing & Security
  • Master of Investigations

Students enrolled in other post-graduate courses within AGSPS may also be considered.

In addition to completing the online application form, students will be expected to answer two additional questions.  They are:

Question 1

How will you ensure that that each member of your nominated group will actively contribute to the research and preparation of the group presentation? (max 300 words).

Question 2

The field trip to Singapore may include exposure to criminal justice and social practices that may be different to your own jurisdiction/home country system. Some differences may be confronting. How will you prepare for these differences and manage them during your trip? (max 300 words).

Your answers to these questions should be included as an attachment with your online application.

Academic Recognition

Students may be eligible to receive academic recognition upon successful completion of the program through JST559 PG International Study Experience.

This will require enrolment in, payment of and successful completion of this subject.

Program deposit and due date

$1,000 non-refundable deposit, payable within two weeks of notification of successful application.

You must have a valid passport or be in the process of applying for one on notification that the program is proceeding. Your passport must have a minimum of six-month validity from the program's return date.

Pre-departure

All participants are required to complete mandatory pre-departure requirements which include:

  • Flight Itinerary*:  You must submit a copy of your E-ticket that clearly lists your dates, flight number/ times from the day you leave Australia until the day you return and confirmation these flights have been paid for.
  • Travel Insurance*:  You will need to ensure you have the appropriate medical and travel insurance from the day you leave Australia until the day you return.  You must submit a copy of your certificate of insurance and your Product Disclosure Statement (PDS). At a minimum your insurance must include:
    • Medical Expenses $500,000
    • Repatriation Expenses $15,000
    • Personal Liability $1,000,000
    • 24hr Emergency Assistance Included
    • COVID 19 cover
  • Passport:  You must submit a copy of your passport (the page where your photo is).
  • Pre-departure modules: You will be registered for Charles Sturt Global online pre-departure training
  • Register with World Travel Assist: The app provides immediate access to 24-hour emergency assistance (in the event that your own insurer is unavailable), security alerts and detailed country reports. You will need to enable World Travel Assist to access your location so you can receive real-time travel and security support if an incident occurs.
  • Student Declaration form: This will be provided with your acceptance email.
  • Emergency contact form: This will be provided with your acceptance email

Your program leader will also host a number of online predeparture meetings that you are required to attend.

Learning about so many different cultures and meeting such a different group of people is something you can’t experience in classrooms here. Everyone was there for the same reasons; a love of learning, love of travel and curiosity. These things bound us all together.
