FaclonCam Project

Our work and impact

FalconCam is a wildlife research and public engagement project at Charles Sturt University that monitors peregrine falcons nesting on the Orange campus. Using live-stream cameras installed in a nest box on a campus water tower, the project allows researchers and the public to observe the falcons’ behaviour, diet and breeding activity.

Who it supports

FalconCam engages and supports:

  • Wildlife researchers and students
  • School students and educators
  • Citizen scientists and bird enthusiasts
  • The wider community interested in wildlife conservation.

Key focus areas include:

Wildlife monitoring and research
Studying peregrine falcon breeding behaviour, nesting patterns and feeding activity.

Citizen science and community engagement
Encouraging the public to observe and learn about wildlife through the FalconCam live stream.

Environmental education
Providing educational resources for schools and community groups interested in biodiversity and conservation.

Technology-enabled wildlife observation
Using camera technology to document wildlife behaviour that is normally difficult to observe.

The initiative aims to:

  • Increase understanding of peregrine falcon behaviour and ecology
  • Promote community engagement with wildlife and conservation
  • Support research and education in environmental science
  • Inspire greater appreciation of biodiversity.
