Led by Professor Clive Hamilton AM, an author and Professor of Public Ethics at Charles Sturt University, the Living Hot Project aims to change the way we talk about how Australia can adapt to and coexist with a rapidly warming world. It follows the publication of Living Hot: Surviving and Thriving on a Heating Planet (Hardie Grant, 2024), by Professor Hamilton and energy expert Dr George Wilkenfeld.
The project aims to shift the national conversation on climate change - moving beyond the concern with cutting emissions to preparing for life in a hotter, more unpredictable climate. While cutting emissions remains essential, global warming is already leading to extreme weather, social stresses, and economic pressures. And Australia is unprepared.
The Living Hot Project investigates what Australians believe about the threats posed by a changing climate and how they are responding to floods, bushfires, droughts, storms, and heatwaves. Charles Sturt’s leadership in agricultural research provides a strong basis for improving the nation’s resilience, especially in maintaining food security amid a changing climate.
The Living Hot Project seeks to explore Australia’s future on a heating planet.
