Global health

Our global health research focuses on rural and remote communities and neglected diseases of the developing world (e.g., The Philippines, PNG, Nepal, Bangladesh).

Focus areas

We are specifically interested in drug discovery, vaccine development, clinical trials, and integrated control. One health, pandemic threats and zoonotic spill-over is also of great interest.

Our research focuses on malaria, schistosomiasis, tuberculosis, polio, cholera, H. pylori, and other enteric diseases.

Our objectives

  • Addressing the global health inequities through proven public health interventions.
  • To enhance the control of neglected tropical diseases through drug discovery, vaccination and vector-borne control.
  • Taking a One-Health view to combat longstanding infectious diseases that affect both people and livestock.

Current projects

We are presently working in South Africa, PNG, Nepal, Bangladesh and the Philippines from drug discovery to phase four clinical trials.

We just completed a Phase 3b schistosomiasis vaccine trial in the Philippines and are planning a Phase IV polio trial in Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. A Phase III cholera trial is planned for Dhaka slums.
