Sports and Blues Awards

University Sports and Blues Awards are awarded for outstanding achievement  in university sport – an acknowledgement and celebration that occurs at universities across Australia, United Kingdom, Canada and New Zealand.

The Charles Sturt University wide Sporting and Blues Awards formally recognise the sporting achievements of our students across all campuses and online. Through this awards program we, as a University community, are able to celebrate the contributions, achievements and sporting excellence of our student athletes, sporting clubs, teams and program.

Award categories

Sportsperson of the Year

Prize: $500

Awarded to a student-athlete in recognition of their outstanding achievements in both their performance and contribution to representative university sport.

Sports Volunteer of the Year

Prize: $500

Awarded to a volunteer in recognition of their outstanding contribution and leadership to their sports club and/or the Charles Sturt Sporting community.

Sports Club of the Year

Prize: $1000

Awarded to a Charles Sturt Sports club in recognition of their outstanding achievements in administration, service to members and development of their club.

Sporting Leader of the year

Prize: $500

Awarded to a student who has demonstrated outstanding leadership through a significant contribution to enhancing the student experience through sport.

Club Athlete of the Year

Prize: $500

Awarded to a sports club athlete in recognition of their outstanding achievements for their club throughout the course of the season.

Sports Team of the Year

Prize: $1000

Awarded to either a team from a Charles Sturt Sports club or team representing Charles Sturt at Uni Nationals, recognising exceptional sporting achievement.

Contribution to Sport on Campus

Prize: $500 individual or $1000 group

Awarded to a student (or group) who has demonstrated outstanding delivery and program management of a student campus sporting program.

Vice Chancellor's Sporting and Academic Excellence Award

Prize: $500

Awarded to a student athlete who has excelled not only in their chosen sport but also has maintained a high level of academic performance.

Sporting Blue

Prize: $500, award plaque and Charles Sturt formal apparel

Awarded to student-athlete/s who have achieved the highest level of sporting excellence in their chosen sport. A Blue is the utmost accolade a university athlete can receive.

Sport has always played a significant part of Charles Sturt Uni life through the performance of our sporting clubs, teams and student-athletes. Our array of sporting opportunities provide students and the wider community with a rich campus and representative sporting experience. Sport matters at Charles Sturt – it inspires, connects and leads.

Our inaugural 2023 Sports and Blues Awards aim to recognise and celebrate the contributions, achievements and sporting excellence of our students and sporting groups across all campuses and online.

There are prizes for each award.

Important dates

  • Nominations for 2023 have now closed.
  • Awards winners will be announced by our Vice Chancellor on Wednesday 1 November.
