The vision of Design and Development in the Division of Learning and Teaching is to promote excellence in higher education through innovative course and subject design and development as foundational to high quality teaching and learning.
The mission of our team is to support and guide Charles Sturt University staff in the design and implementation of best practice in course and subject design, supported by the development of effective and appropriate learning and teaching resources and strategies in face-to- face, online and blended learning environments.
We are leaders of educational design who facilitate enhanced course and subject quality, teaching effectiveness, and outstanding outcomes for graduates. Our team supports the three Faculties and academic staff across all Charles Sturt campuses, and supports Charles Sturt Strategic projects, primarily through our three faculty-aligned teams, but also through a matrix structure that allows us to be responsive to university needs. Our aim is to enhance the quality of learning and teaching at Charles Sturt through our partnership work with Schools and Faculties to design curricula and to develop effective online pedagogies and resources for blended and flexible learning environments.
Our team is led by the Sub-Dean Design and Development and is comprised of leads in the areas of Digital Media, Educational Design, Learning Analytics and Learning Technologies along with a number of Senior Educational Designers, Educational Designers, Learning Resource Officers and Digital Media Technologists. This team also works closely with academic staff in Gulaay, teaching and learning and academic development to inform course and subject design and development.
The Sub-Dean Design and Development leads the Course and Subject Design, Development Team in its work to provide proactive guidance and responsive support enabling all areas of the university to deliver high quality online, blended and face to face learning experiences to students.
Our Educational Design Lead (EDL) leads the team of Senior Educational Designers (SEDs), the Digital Media Lead (DMLs), Educational Designers (EDs), Learning Resource Officers (LROs) and Digital Media Technicians (DMTs), providing oversight and operational leadership in one Faculty and across the teams.

Educational Designers (EDs) assist Faculties, Schools and academic staff to
collaboratively design and develop innovative curriculum at the course and subject level, which is enhanced through design for blended and flexible learning environments and incorporation of educational technologies. EDs promote evidence-based teaching practice and support the professional learning of academic staff in learning and teaching to enhance the student experience and promote excellence.
Educational designers can assist with:
Learning Resource Officers (LROs) work collaboratively with Faculties, Schools, academic staff and other Division of Learning and Teaching staff to facilitate sustainable, innovative, high quality digital learning resources to enhance Charles Sturt student’s learning experience. LROs also support academic staff with the creation of online subject sites, assessments and use of a range of educational technologies.
Learning Resource Officers can assist with:
Senior Digital Media Technologist (SDMTs) and Digital Media Technologists (DMTs) are guided by the expertise of the Digital Media Lead (DML) and work collaboratively with Faculties, Schools, academic staff and other Division of Learning and Teaching staff to develop sustainable, innovative, high quality digital learning resources. They also support academic staff in their provision of learning resources to students, with specific expertise in video, audio, animations, digital images and graphics.
