Curriculum Architecture Principles

All courses need to align with our Curriculum Architecture Principles which were approved by Academic Senate in April 2022.

These are written at the course level and align with the current standards and requirements under the Australian Qualifications Framework and Higher Education Standards Framework.

Benefits

The Course Architecture Principles provide:

  • Clear guidelines for course structures to enhance consistency and quality assurance at the point of design.
  • A common and consistent language and subsequent alignment of a shared understanding of curriculum, course structures, policy and procedures.
  • Clarity to students through clear course requirements and study pathways.
  • Standardisation and streamlining, with degrees of flexibility, and processes for exceptions related to professional accreditation requirements.
  • Assurance that the learning volume (depth & breadth) and scope align with regulatory requirements.
  • An integrated approach to curriculum design, governance, and accreditation through consistent application in the curriculum lifecycle.
  • Alignment with the Curriculum Design, Accreditation and Publication (CDAP) curriculum management system and curriculum lifecycle management.

Principles

The list of principles start at a high level and then go into the detail of course structures. They also:

  • align with regulation and policy
  • guide effective course design and governance
  • ensure courses and succinct and clear
  • allow room for flexibility.

Where applicable, the principles have guidance notes attached that provide additional explanatory information.
