Country Education Foundation

Charles Sturt University has partnered with the Country Education Foundation (CEF) through a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to expand opportunities for rural, regional and remote students. Together, they are helping more country students access and succeed in university study.

Who is the Country Education Foundation?

The Country Education Foundation (CEF) is a not-for-profit organisation that supports young people in rural and regional Australia to access post-school education, training and employment. They provide financial assistance, scholarships and mentoring to help students overcome the barriers of distance and disadvantage.

Breakdown of the partnership

Funding to support regional students

  • The MoU commenced in 2025 and includes a $400,000 co-funded commitment over three years.
  • This funding—approximately $133,000 per year—is allocated to CEF students studying at Charles Sturt University.
  • The partnership directly supports students from rural, regional and remote communities.

Prioritising first-year and continuing students

  • Preference is given to first-year students to help them enter university with confidence and financial support.
  • Continuing students are also eligible, reinforcing the belief that anyone can achieve a university education with the right support and mindset.

The Country Education Foundation (CEF) is thrilled to work alongside Charles Sturt University, a university deeply rooted in regional Australia, to create more opportunities for young Australians.

CEF has always been at the forefront of advocating for rural and regional students, and this partnership empowers our CEF-supported students at Charles Sturt to pursue their passions.

The partnership provides additional funding for these students’ educational expenses, creating greater impact for them, while assisting with a successful transition to study at Charles Sturt University.
