Introductory Physics

This subject is designed to provide the minimum knowledge and concepts in physics required by a student who is enrolling into a typical first year tertiary physics subject. The subject is particularly relevant to those students pursuing a range of science courses including the Medical Radiation Science undergraduate program.

In this subject, you will cover the following topics:

  • Mechanics
    • Measurement
    • Describing motion
    • Force and motion
    • Mechanical energy and power
    • Momentum
    • Projectile and circular motion
    • Simple harmonic motion
  • Heat
    • Temperature and thermometers
    • Thermal expansion of solids and liquids
    • Heat and thermal energy
    • Heat capacity, specific heat, latent heat, calorimetry
    • Heat transfer
  • Wave motion, light and sound
  • Electricity and magnetism
    • Electrostatics or static electricity
    • Electrodynamics or current electricity
    • Electromagnetism
  • Atomic and nuclear physics

To complete this subject requires around 40 hours of online self-paced learning with the support of your subject coordinator who will provide feedback as you build your skills and confidence in chemistry.
