Women and gender diverse people contribute across vineyards, wineries, research and leadership in Australia’s wine industry. Yet many face persistent barriers to equal participation and advancement. Addressing these challenges required robust evidence and practical guidance tailored to the realities of a diverse, regionally based sector.
Charles Sturt researchers Professor Larissa Bamberry, Associate Professor Donna Bridges, Dr Helen Taylor and Dr Elizabeth Wulff with Associate Professor Sue Williamson co-developed the Australian Wine Industry Gender Equity Toolkit in partnership with industry and academic collaborators. Drawing on a comprehensive research study informed by consultation with more than 400 industry stakeholders, the team translated research findings into a practical resource. The toolkit provides wine businesses with evidence-based strategies to improve recruitment, retention, cultural change and organisational assessment, supporting workplaces to strengthen equity and inclusion.
Now available nationally through industry organisations, the toolkit supports tangible action across the Australian wine sector, contributing to fairer working conditions, improved career pathways and more inclusive workplaces, in line with global efforts to advance gender equality.
