Amplifying regional conversations on gender equality

(L-R) Hosts and producers Sonja Maria, Clifford Lewis and Donna Bridges.

Supporting inclusive communities depends on creating spaces for open conversation about gender and sexuality, and on sharing research beyond academic settings. Programs that connect scholarly work with public life can help build understanding, respect and positive social change.

At Charles Sturt, the Gender Network plays a central role in advancing gender equality through community-engaged research initiatives. A key example is Conversations for a Brave New World, a radio and podcast series developed, produced and sustained by the network. Hosted by Associate Professor

Donna Bridges, Associate Professor Sonja Maria and Associate Professor Clifford Lewis, the program is broadcast on 2MCE, Charles Sturt’s community radio station, reaching audiences across Wiradjuri Country in the Central West of New South Wales.

The series translates feminist, gender and queer research into accessible public dialogue, connecting global, national and local perspectives with regional communities. Through this partnership with community radio, the program contributes to greater understanding, inclusion and respect in regional communities.
