Innovation award celebrates teaching excellence in computing

Charles Sturt has been recognised for excellence in innovative learning through the Australian Learning and Development Innovation of the Year – Education award at the Asian Innovation Excellence Awards 2025. The School of Computing, Mathematics and Engineering, within the Faculty of Business, Justice and Behavioural Studies, was acknowledged for integrating advanced data science, cyber security and analytics into learning and teaching in ways that strengthen industry and community capability.

Led by Professor Lihong Zheng, the School has combined applied research and industr collaboration to enhance curriculum and deliver learning experiences grounded in real world problem solving. Its achievements include more than 25 external research grants, over 360 publications and contributions to projects such as cyber security for agricultural systems and data-sharing innovations in the red-meat supply chain.

This work demonstrates how embedding innovation into teaching supports resilient communities and advances sustainable industry development.
