Charles Sturt received the 2025 GGAA Nature Positive Award for its long-term commitment to restoring biodiversity across its campuses. To strengthen habitat connectivity in regional Australia, Charles Sturt expanded nature positive land management to more than 330 hectares and set a target to dedicate 30 per cent of core land to biodiversity outcomes by 2030.
The university restored ecosystems through biodiversity corridors, wetlands and native plantings that support species such as the Swift Parrot and Sloane’s Froglet.
These efforts include planting more than 38,000 native plants and involved more than 2,000 staff, students and community members in conservation and educational activities over four years. Research and innovation – such as nestbox design, fish breeding initiatives and the integration of biodiversity with agriculture – further enhanced ecological resilience.
This award has also placed Charles Sturt as a nominee for the International Nature Positive Award in 2026.
