Participants attending the Albury Direct Seeding Workshop held during Biodiversity Month.
In 2025, Charles Sturt marked Biodiversity Month with a range of practical, campus-based activities designed to promote healthy ecosystems and further the university’s ongoing commitment to improving onsite biodiversity. More than 180 students, staff and community members took part, supported by nine community and industry partners.
Highlights included Breakfast with the Birds delivered in Wagga Wagga by visiting ecologist Darryl Jones with Campus Environmental Working Group (CEWG) support, and in Port Macquarie by Hastings Birdwatchers and the Student Enviro Club. Local Land Services facilitated a direct-seeding workshop in Albury, while tree planting days in Bathurst, Orange and Dubbo contributed to long-term habitat restoration.
Dubbo activities also welcomed additional participation from Dubbo Secondary College students and Dubbo Field Naturalists volunteers.
Together, these collaborative initiatives strengthened community connections and supported progress toward protecting vital biodiversity areas in line with the Life on Land goal.
