Strengthening student wellbeing during paramedicine placements

Mandatory professional placements are a core requirement of paramedicine training, yet they often create significant financial and social strain for students. Unpaid placement hours, travel and accommodation costs can disrupt caring responsibilities and reduce access to family support. In 2025, while placement payments were extended to some essential service disciplines, paramedicine students were excluded.

In response, Charles Sturt established the Paramedicine Prac Payment through donor support. Delivered by Advancement and Scholarships, the program provides eligible Bachelor of Paramedicine (Course CRICOS: 036176A) students with a weekly payment benchmarked to the Austudy rate, helping cover living expenses and support participation during mandatory placements.

In 2025, the program distributed more than $114,000 to 109 students. Recipients reported reduced financial stress and improved capacity to remain engaged with their studies during placement periods. By reducing financial hardship during compulsory training, the initiative supports student wellbeing and more equitable access to professional education.
