Dignity vending machines

Share the Dignity period packs are essential for supporting our on-campus students' and staff's health and wellbeing.

We are proud to team with Share the Dignity to provide dignity vending machines (DVMs) to supply these essential packs.  These packs offer access to necessary menstrual hygiene products, ensuring that no one has to miss out on educational or professional opportunities due to a lack of resources. By offering these packs, we promote wellbeing, reduce stigma, and create a more inclusive and supportive campus environment for everyone.

Tackling period poverty at Charles Sturt

Research conducted by Ms Elizabeth Smith, Dr Tracey Parnell, and Associate Professor Jessica Biles reveals the following key insights:

  • Over 60% of people who menstruate have experienced period poverty (Connory & WhyHive, 2024).
  • At Charles Sturt University:
    • 36.5% missed classes, and 47.6% missed social activities because of period poverty.
    • 47% used alternatives like toilet paper or tissues.
    • 67% used alternatives to period products because they didn’t have access to proper products.

These numbers show that period poverty isn’t just about inconvenience - it affects health, education, and wellbeing.

  • Students: If you need products, use the DVMs - they’re there for you.
  • Staff: Help spread the word and support students who may be struggling.
  • Everyone: Let’s talk openly about period poverty and work together to remove the stigma.
