The most rewarding part is knowing what we do really matters - not just to students, but to the donors who find real joy in giving. Among the many moments that stay with him are those where students, against all odds, complete their degrees - successes that would have been unimaginable without philanthropic support. Often, these life-changing outcomes are made possible through deeply personal acts of generosity, such as when a family chooses to honour the memory of a loved one by establishing a scholarship in their name. In these moments, grief is transformed into impact, and the legacy of one life goes on to support and uplift many others. If he could start a new fund, it would be one with heart and second chances: “The Dropout Fund. A scholarship just for students who are re-enrolling after a tough first go. But I wouldn’t stop at financial help - I’d also give them a special course on using every available tool to succeed.” When he’s not brewing the longest of long blacks, Justin can be found listening to “The Nature of Daylight” by Max Richter, a piece that never fails to lift his spirits. A self-described helper at heart, if he weren’t in Advancement, he’d still be doing something that makes a difference to others. Justin loves working in a regional university community for its sense of authenticity and connection. And if you're visiting the Bathurst campus, he insists on a stop at The Grange, home to the Vice-Chancellor - and more importantly, Charles Sturt’s original writing desk. What motivates you? Empowering others
