Steven’s life was a bright spark, full of laughter, curiosity, and a genuine love for
helping others. Whether he was cracking a joke, lending a hand, or diving headfirst into an adventure, he brought an energy that lifted everyone around him. His sudden and tragic passing left a space that can never truly be filled, yet the impact he made on his friends, family, and community continues to inspire every day.
That same spirit carried through Steven’s journey at Charles Sturt University. His time there was marked by dedication, leadership, and a deep commitment to caring for others. Steven completed two degrees at Charles Sturt: a Bachelor of Nursing in 2018, followed by a Bachelor of Paramedicine in 2021.
Beyond his studies, Steven became an influential and respected presence in the student community. He served on the inaugural Online Learning Student Representative Committee in 2016 and went on to take leadership roles as Vice President (2019–20) and President (2020–21). His peers knew him as thoughtful, engaged, and wholeheartedly devoted to improving the experience of online students.
Throughout his university years, Steven embodied Charles Sturt’s values, approaching his education, community service, and emerging career with compassion, integrity, and selflessness. His contributions to both the nursing and paramedicine communities reflect the profound and lasting difference he made.
To honour that spirit, the Steven Tougher Memorial Fund was established. The fund supports scholarships in both nursing and paramedicine, awarded to students who share Steven’s passion for caring for others and making a real difference when it matters most.
To continue offering these scholarships each year, we need $10,000 in annual funding. Your support ensures Steven’s compassion, leadership, and generosity live on through the students who will go on to save lives and serve their communities.
Together, we can carry Steven’s legacy forward and help future healthcare professionals follow in his footsteps.
Reading about the kind of person Steven was made it clear to me that he was in the right profession and that paramedicine was the right career path for me. The support from this scholarship will help me achieve this goal, and I hope to become as great a paramedic as Steven was.
