Torie Finanne Memorial Fund

Torie Finnane was a deeply respected and much-loved regional midwife whose passion for women, babies and families shaped every aspect of her work. She believed all women deserved access to safe, high-quality maternity care, regardless of where they lived, and was deeply committed to ensuring families in regional communities could access exceptional care closer to home. Torie was known for her compassion, warmth and unwavering dedication to her patients, supporting women through some of life’s most significant moments with kindness, skill and genuine care.

Torie was equally passionate about supporting and encouraging those she worked alongside. As a respected regional midwife, she generously shared her knowledge, championed learning and strongly believed in the capability of regional healthcare teams. She understood the importance of investing in midwives and nurses through education, mentorship and hands-on experience to ensure regional families could access the very best care within their own communities. Her commitment to strengthening regional maternity services continues to inspire the work of the Torie Finnane Foundation today.

Following Torie’s sudden passing in December 2020, her family established the Torie Finnane Foundation to honour her life and continue the work she cared so deeply about. Through professional development, training, infrastructure and essential equipment, the Foundation works to improve maternity outcomes and strengthen services for women, babies and families across regional New South Wales, creating a lasting legacy in Torie’s name.

Torie is remembered as compassionate, authentic, humble and fiercely committed to helping others. Her impact lives on not only through the countless families and colleagues whose lives she touched, but through the regional midwives and nurses who continue to learn, grow and care for families because of the opportunities created in her honour.
