Pathways to Impact

Southern NSW Innovation Hub's Pathways to Impact Framework is a practical tool for those working across research, development, extension, investment, and delivery to design initiatives with real-world uptake in mind; right from the start.

Impact isn’t just about productivity. It includes environmental stewardship, social wellbeing, economic resilience, cultural values, and equity of access. This Framework recognises that agricultural innovation plays a role in all of these outcomes and is a powerful vector for change.

Whether you're delivering an on-ground program, shaping strategy, writing a funding bid, or improving an existing initiative, the Framework can help clarify the problem, engage meaningfully with stakeholders, and build a stronger path from idea to impact.

Importantly, it highlights the opportunity to unlock greater value across the entire research, development and extension (RD&E) continuum. By planning for integration into practice earlier and more intentionally, we can ensure that fit-for-purpose innovations reach the right people, in more meaningful ways, and deliver broader impact.

Grassroots perspectives of extension and adoption

We captured the collective insights of grassroots groups from across southern NSW through two Appreciative Inquiry workshops conducted in 2025 that explored the future of agricultural extension and adoption (E&A).

The workshops were convened in recognition of the fact that while grassroots groups are central to adoption on the ground, their lived experience and perspectives have not consistently informed system-level frameworks or policy directions. Capturing and embedding their voice was therefore a critical step in shaping the Pathways to Impact Framework and ensuring that it is practical, grounded, and supported by the right resourcing and capacity-building approaches.
