Regional Soil Coordinator

Southern NSW Innovation Hub's Regional Soil Coordinator puts science into practice for farmers and communities to improve soil health and productivity.

Justine Cox is the Southern NSW Regional Soil Coordinator, hosted by our partner organisation, the NSW Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development. Justine's role is to translate soil-related science, research and development into practical on-ground information and tools for landholders.

About the program

Regional Soil Coordinators receive funding from the Australian Government's Climate-Smart Agriculture Program that aims to build Australia's capacity in soil health and soil science to drive agricultural sustainability, productivity, and competitiveness.

The Southern NSW Regional Soil Coordinator facilitates a unique Community of Practice (CoP) and ensures the consistent sharing of quality scientific information with researchers, advisers and land managers. They also host the popular and useful monthly Soils Network of Knowledge (SNoK) webinar to share high-quality, scientific soil information that is tailored to the needs of landholders. Sign up to receive invitations to the webinars or watch recordings of previous sessions.

A significant output of the Regional Soil Coordinator program is the development of a Soils Capacity Gap Analysis for southern NSW that identified critical gaps in soil management knowledge and capability. The Hub’s network of partners and contacts supported this analysis and helped maximise its reach. The next phase will address the identified knowledge gaps and ensure information transfer that empowers landholders to make better-informed decisions that suit their systems and businesses.
