Subject Outline

The CSU subject outline serves as the learning and teaching agreement between the University and enrolled students. A subject outline must be created for each mode of study every time the subject is offered.

An outline provide details about the subject, the subject coordinator, assessment items, teaching strategies and the specific conditions that must be met by students in order to obtain a passing grade in the subject.

The Subject Outline Tool

The Subject Outline Tool (SOT) assists the process of creating a subject outline by automatically bringing in subject and institutional data, such as learning outcomes and academic policies, so that you do not need to replicate this information.

You will however, need to provide details such as assessments, contact details and a study schedule.

You need to use the subject outline tool to create a subject outline for each cohort you are teaching.

WE ARE TRANSITIONING TO A NEW SUBJECT OUTLINE TOOL

From 201845

As of Term 3 2018, all Subject Outlines must be developed in the new Subject Outline Tool.
In April/May 2018, Subject Outlines for 201845 and 201860 were made available for development in the new Subject Outline Tool. Outlines for 201875 will become available on 18 May; with 201890 Subject Outlines likely to become available from July.

In April 2018, 201845 Subject Outlines will be available for development. In May 2018, 201860, 201875 and 201890 Subject Outlines will be available for development in the new Subject Outline Tool.

Pre-201845

Subject Outlines published from the superseded Mandatory Subject Information (MSI) system remain available for variations and search in the Interact/Sakai-based system.

You can access both the old and new Subject Outline tools via the Staff Links in your Interact2 Dashboard.

The New Subject Outline Tool (from 201845)

As of Term 3 2018, Subject Outlines can be authored and quality assured in the new Subject Outline Tool. In April/May 2018, Subject Outlines for 201845 and 201860 were made available in the new Subject Outline Tool. Outlines for 201875 will become available on 18 May; with 201890 Subject Outlines likely to become available from July.

Important Notice for 201860, 201875 & 201890 Outlines

  • 201860 Outlines - You are able to clone your MSI Outlines into the new SOT from 3 May. Around mid-late May, all 201860 MSI Outlines will be bulk cloned into the new Subject Outline Tool (if you have not already done so manually)
  • 201875 & 201890 Outlines - You are able to commence drafting and quality assuring Outlines for these sessions in the old Mandatory Subject Information (MSI) subject outline system
  • DO NOT submit any 2018 Outlines for Publication from the MSI system
  • Preventing publication in the MSI system ensures that students are delivered the ‘new look’ Subject Outlines in their i2 sites
  • Preventing publication also allows you to map your subject’s Learning Outcomes to each assessment item using a feature of the new Subject Outline Tool
  • Around mid-late May, all 201860 and 201875 MSI Outlines will be bulk cloned into the new Subject Outline Tool (if you have not already done so manually)
  • At the time of the bulk clone, all MSI Subject Outlines must have a Draft or Revision Required status
  • Learning Outcome mapping, drafting, quality assuring, revising and publishing can then be continued in the new Subject Outline Tool
