Hub in global discussions on drought resilience

15 September 2025

The Southern NSW Innovation Hub has a global platform to share insights and experience from our region on climate and drought resilience.

At the sixteenth session of the Conference of the Parties (COP16), the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) secretariat granted the Hub observer status. As an accredited observer, we are invited to all COP sessions and sub-committees.

The Hub will be involved in discussions that influence global policies on land management and sustainability, as well as innovative solutions to increase farmers’ climate resilience, improve soil health, promote water-efficient farming, and enhance community planning for drought preparedness.

For our partners, farmers and communities, this means a stronger representation in international discussions on combating land degradation and desertification - bringing greater attention to the challenges you face and helping shape policies that support sustainable farming practices and resilient rural communities.

The UNCCD was established in 1994 to protect and restore our land and ensure a safer, just, and more sustainable future. It is the only legally binding framework set up to address desertification and the effects of drought.
